The Girl With No Name (Detective Josie Quinn #2) by  Lisa Regan – BOOK REVIEW

Action-packed and full of mystery.
I have to admit that this one kept me guessing the entire way though, it’s hard for me to admit that! I usually pick up on who the bad seed is, early on in any book but Lisa Regan held out until the very end.
Not only did we have to wait for that but the question of “why” wasn’t answered until the last bit either.
Following Josie, the Police Chief on a hunt to find a newborn baby and her fiancé as she uncovers a situation that no one saw coming, all tied to the same man.
There’s a lot going on in this book but I never felt that I missing something. Sometimes when a story gets complicated, interweaving characters and storylines the reader often feels like the loose ends won’t get tied up. Not with this book, at the end everything had a nice little bow that wrapped it all together quite nicely.

The Girl With No Name (Detective Josie Quinn Book 2)

The Girl With No Name (Detective Josie Quinn #2)

Detective Josie Quinn is horrified when she’s called to the house of a mother who had her newborn baby snatched from her arms.

A woman caught fleeing the scene is Josie’s only lead, but when questioned it seems this mysterious girl doesn’t know who she is, where she’s from or why she is so terrified…

Is she a witness, a suspect, or the next victim?

As Josie digs deeper, a letter about a mix-up at a fertility clinic links the nameless girl and the missing child to a spate of killings across the county. Josie is faced with an impossible decision: should she risk the life of one innocent child to save many others… or can she find another way?

The Girl with No Name is nail-biting, twisty and impossible to put down. If you love griping thrillers from Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine, you’ll be hooked.

The Tarot Companion by Liz Dean – Book Review

Another ARC title from Netgalley!
Very informational, easy to understand with pictures too!

I’ve always wanted to learn how to read Tarot cards, some of the previous reads I’ve picked up weren’t the best at explaining the process to a layman. After this, I feel confident enough to try it on my own.

The Tarot Companion: A Portable Guide to Reading the Cards for Yourself and Others

The Tarot Companion: A Portable Guide to Reading the Cards for Yourself and Others

Tarot-reading is one of the oldest esoteric practices. Lore has it that the art of reading tarot cards has existed for over 600 years. What is tarot fact and fiction has been lost with the passage of time. Yet tarot is more popular than ever in our modern society, because the cards speak to our most instinctual and primal selves through their stories, meanings, and symbols.

The Tarot Companion reveals the messages and mystery of the cards. This beautiful and accessible little volume lets you quickly and accurately use the cards to reveal an inner truth, gain insight into a pressing question, or divine what may unfold in your life.

As the only man in her life she truly trusts, Logan is the perfect one to help her find this new side of herself—and stand in as her pretend boyfriend at an upcoming reunion.

For Logan, a Broadway actor by trade and passion, Hannah’s proposal is both outrageous and intriguing—especially since he’s fought for nineteen years of friendship to avoid thinking of her in a physical way. Now, they just have to navigate their new situation while playing house… and somehow remember this is all Just Pretend…

Exclusive Excerpt:

“I’ve always liked your arms,” Hannah states in a matter-of-fact kind of way.

Regular tipsy Hannah has returned.

Normally, as her best friend, I would just ignore her so she doesn’t say something she will regret later. However, this is a rare opportunity for me to find out just what she is thinking. The real reason behind her friends-with-benefits proposition. The alcohol in her system has corroded a hole in the thick barrier she spent years building. A hole that I am going to try to slip right through.

“Really? Is that your favorite part of me?”

I snicker as she bops my nose with her finger. “Boop. No, silly. It’s your heart. It’s what makes you so special. What did I do to deserve you?”

I grin. “You broke my nose.”

She guffaws at my clever quip, laughing uncontrollably as she gasps for air. I give her a chance to catch her breath before I undertake trying to pry information out of her.

“Han,” I keep my eyes on the road, but I don’t have to see her to know I have her full attention. I can feel it. “What is the real reason you asked me to sleep with you? What was going on in that pretty head of yours?”

Silence pours over us. I don’t know whether she is collecting her thoughts or if she is ignoring my question. Regardless, the silence is deafening. I hope she didn’t pass out on me.

I sneak a peek to my right. Hannah’s head is bowed, her shoulders shaking involuntarily. It doesn’t take a genius to know she is quietly sobbing.

I ease over to the side of the road, shifting the truck into park. Turning to her, I lean over and wrap her in my embrace. After she rests her head on my shoulder, she breaks the silence. “Why am I so unlovable? What is it about me? My hair? My eyes? My breasts? Are they not adequate for you?”

“You are not unlovable, Han. Why would you say something like that?” I rub my hand across her back, trying to provide her some serenity.

“What other reason is there for every man that I have ever gone out with to cheat on me? To betray me? To hurt me? Something must be wrong with me. I must be unlovable.” As she speaks, I can feel the wetness of her tears dampening my shoulder.

In a harsh jerk, I push her out of my arms and lift her head up. Our gazes lock, allowing me to see the yellow speck of trouble in her blue eyes. “You can’t be unlovable, Han, because I fucking love you.”

Zoe Leonard: ‘Here After All’ — The New York Review of Books

Looking at Zoe Leonard’s photographs, there is a sense of preservation, of saving these things from being obliterated—by AIDS, by gentrification, or simply by forgetfulness—by preserving them in images. Friday Review – Creating Sanctuary: Sacred Garden Spaces, Plant-Based Medicine, and Daily Practices to Achieve Happiness and Well-Being

Screen Shot 2018-06-07 at 1.37.33 PM.pngYes! This was pure perfection!Of course I loved the beautiful photos but it was so much more than that. For me, gardening has become one of my grounding exercises.
When I step outside into nature it transforms me in ways I can’t even explain. We need to take time away from our our busy lives and for each of us that means something different. Finding the thing that makes you feel whole again, that allows you breathe without expectations can only help you find yourself in times of uncertainty. We’re so focused on work, news and even social media that we forget those things don’t make us whole. The only fragment our lives in ways that, most of the time, aren’t conducive to a happy life. Screen Shot 2018-06-07 at 1.36.24 PM.png
Although I love gardening already, this book made me fall in love with all over again! Learning about types of plants, layering your garden and how to bring solace and peace into your life by getting back to nature really made me appreciate this book…more than I thought it would.
It takes a good read sometimes to wake us up and this was that for me.

Escape. A single word. A tempting path. And out of Gwen’s reach. She strode across the balcony of the royal palace, her hands clenched at her sides. There had to be some way for her to escape the peering eyes, the criticism.

My duties.

Her troubled gaze drifted over the idyllic scenery of Arens, capital of Cordova, her beloved country. The beautiful greenery that melted into the shoreline usually brought calm and serenity. Not today. Even the light, earthy scent of heather, the flowers influenced by neighboring Germany, didn’t lighten her mood. Pulling her arms tight across her chest, she continued to trace the length of the balcony with quick steps.

“Your pacing is making me nauseous.”

Gwen brought her steps to an abrupt halt and glared at her brother resting so casually against the stone balustrade.

“Oh shut up, Samuel. You’re not the one with the noose around your neck.” Leaving her brother behind, Gwen marched through the open French doors and collapsed behind the centuries-old desk.

She listened as the thump of Samuel’s cast hit the tiled floors, following her inside. He slumped into the chair across from her, grinning at her obvious frustration. She knew she acted childish, but better in front of her closest brother than her aide or, God forbid, the media.

“A noose, Gwendolyn? Really? Don’t you think you’re being a bit dramatic? Duty to the crown, duty to the country. Hail Cordova.” Sarcasm dripped off each word. Samuel hefted his casted foot and plunked it down onto the desk, knocking off a silver picture frame.

Gwen retrieved the framed picture from the floor, some of her tension ebbing from her slender body. Five laughing children smiled back at her through the glass. Her older brother, Jonathan, stood in the back with a toothy grin, golden hair gleaming in the afternoon sun. Only ten years old in the picture, but the weight of the country already pressed down on his shoulders. Gwen’s seven years held no worries, her head thrown back in mid-laughter as she watched her five-year-old twin brothers, Samuel and Arthur, dangle from the tree above. Her youngest sister, Petra, swaddled in her mother’s arm, wild red hair peeking from the blanket.

The picture snapped outside the doors of the palace, exactly one month before her mother suddenly took the crown. What a difference it made in her life, her mother transitioning to Queen of Cordova after losing their dear grandmother to cancer.
