“Milk Soaps” by Anne-Marie Faiola

Thank you Netgalley, Anne-Marie Faiola, and Storey Publishing for this Advanced Reader’s Copy!

I’ve never been brave enough to try making soap before, although I have tried handmade lotions, lip balms and salt scrubs, making soap always felt a little out of my reach. For one, the materials involved include items I don’t normally stock in my house but the second reason holding back was the fear of messing up.

When I received this book, I immediately dove in and was happy to see everything I needed to know was contained within the cover! It’s perfect for gifts, people suffering with sensitive skin and those looking to try a new hobby. Some of the materials and ingredients are a bit costly, but with affordable options, tackling this project won’t be too expensive.

Handmade soap is made extra-special with the addition of milk! Soaps enriched with milk are creamier than those made with water, and milk’s natural oils provide skin-renewing moisture and nourishment. In Milk Soaps, expert soapmaker Anne-Marie Faiola demystifies the process with step-by-step techniques and 35 recipes for making soaps that are both beautiful and useful. She explains the keys to success in using a wide range of milk types, including cow, goat, and even camel milk, along with nut and grain milks such as almond, coconut, hemp, rice, and more. Photographs show soapmakers of all levels how to achieve a variety of distinctive color and shape effects, including funnels, swirls, layers, and insets. For beginners and experts alike, this focused guide to making milk-enriched soaps offers an opportunity to expand their soapmaking skills in new and exciting ways.

Milk has long been a popular ingredient in soap making. Goat milk in particular is known for its moisturizing and skin softening properties. Using milk in body products is not just limited to goat milk. Coconut milk, almond milk, and cow milk are also great additions to your creations. See below for some of our favorite recipes, resources and milk centered products available from Bramble Berry.

Autumn Foods for Beautiful Glowing Skin

According to Ancient Chinese Medicine, the path to vitality, good health, and flawless skin is a result of eating with the changing seasons. If beauty is truly from the inside-out and what we eat shapes our health and well-being, we decided to round up some of the best beauty foods to keep your body healthy and skin glowing this Autumn.

FIGS  – One of our favorite beauty foods, Figs are not only absolutely delicious but also are rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients for healthy skin. Phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, and other vitamins and minerals found in figs help to keep skin glowing, rejuvenated, and nourished from within.

PEARS – In Chinese Medicine, the lungs and the skin have a major correlation to one another. Pears are known to nourish the lungs, which are usually affected during the dryer months, as well as deeply nourish and moisturize the skin from within. A pear a day can help keep the dermotologist away (unless you love going to the derm).

PUMPKIN SEEDS – Fall is the season of pumpkin everything but the seeds are really magic when it comes to glowing skin. Pumpkin seeds are rich in Zinc, an important mineral that helps to encourage skin cell production, cell renewal, as well as increases the skin’s ability to heal itself.

Herbivore Botanicals

First, let me start this off by saying that this is NOT a paid post. I repeat…NOT a paid post!

I can’t tell you how many times, I’ve gotten excited about a product after reading a great article proclaiming it’s benefits only to read at the very bottom of the post, that it was in fact a paid post! So frustrating!

I get it, everyone from celebrities to social media stars and a ton of bloggers make bank sharing themselves enjoying said product, often accompanied with a discount code for you to save too. But, the problem has become, at least for me, to know whether or not the product is actually good or if the author is just trying to peddle junk to make a buck!

Now, having said all that I will tell you that I’m an Amazon Associate but I buy all the goods that I recommend with my own hard-earned money.

Let’s get into it, shall we?

This week’s one of our favorites that we’ve been using and testing for a while now, has some new goods

Every ingredient that we include in our products is there for a specific therapeutic reason. We do not use fillers of any kind, meaning that almost every ingredient in our products is an “active” ingredient. This results in pure, highly concentrated, and effective formulas that are a rarity in the skincare and cosmetics world today. All of our formulas are original, created and tested by us, on real people — never on animals and always from scratch. All of our products have an emphasis on organic, high quality, and food-grade ingredients.

Knowing that everything we put on our skin quickly absorbs into our bodies, we ethically source the finest raw natural materials the earth has to offer. With ingredients ranging from French pink clay to Brazilian gemstones, we formulate treatments that combine essential vitamins, minerals, and botanicals to restore skin to its optimum health and vitality.

In addition to creating products that give you noticeable results, we also create our products with personal rejuvenation and a little indulgence in mind. We believe that daily bathing and skincare rituals should be enjoyable — a way to carve out some much-needed downtime in your hectic routine. From thoughtfully designed packaging and labels that really allow our ingredients to shine through, to intoxicating scents and luxurious textures, we truly want you to love your skincare and bathing routines.
